Why don’t all my dreams and desires come true?

  • Why are dreams not goals?
  • Perhaps you want to own a big house and / or car, to have a thriving business or the partner of your dreams. What makes the difference, whether a desire becomes a goal and whether it is achieved?

2.

First, you have to be aware of what you want to achieve and then commit yourself to it.

In order to motivate this process, there is a formula that is abbreviated as SMART:

  • S = Specific; i.e. the objectives must be clearly defined
  • M = Measurable; Search for measurability criteria (e.g. 2x / week to the gym)
  • A = Attractive; the goal must be desirable and appealing to you
  • R = Realistic; stay to the facts, the goal must be somehow in reach, otherwise frustration is assured (see T)
  • T = Timed; set a fixed date, when your goal should be achieved

(and of course, several milestones are leading you to the bigger goal)

3.

  • It is best to keep your goals in writing. According to a study by Dr. Gail Matthews (Dominican University California), goals are more internalized and significantly more achieved by those you have previously written them down. And who does not want to be an achiever?
